Snow days! Ice storms! Upstate as it all! I hope you are all weathering the weather skiing at Willard Mountain and looking forward to spring.

March will bring something new to North Country Flowers! We will be carrying the wonderful Ed Levin Jewelry line. For those of you not familiar with it, the jewelry is handcrafted in Cambridge, New York in beautiful classical and modern designs—perfect for Easter, graduation, and bridesmaids gifts!

We will also be carrying Quitsakiki Design jewelry from Marblehead, Massachusetts. It features hand blown glass beads, fresh water pearls and has a fun innovative style.

Come in and see both lines of jewelry as well as all our spring flowers in the cooler!

Happy November Everyone! We're coming up on my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving!

(And no, it's NOT for the food!!) I love it because it's not about GETTING anything, it's about being happy with what you've got!

We've had a grand fall — The Harvest Festival was fun with our own Randy dressed as a scarecrow, giving out roses to the ladies along Main Street!

The Holiday Shopping event on December 13th should prove to be equally fun. We'll be crafting European hand-tied bouquets for you, from flowers you select — if you've never seen these done, they are quite lovely! Come watch us create!!

Also, our good friend Beth will be handpainting ornaments, as well as debuting the first in her dated Victorian Ornament Series! Don't miss out!

Fall is in the air — I personally think the first day of school is the unofficial first day of the year! I always feel revitalized and ready to take on new projects and adventures!

Two projects going on here will be the completion of building renovations to make an apartment upstairs, and perhaps installing a gas fireplace in our "living room" area...

The garden needs to be readied for bulb planting and Hope and I are harvesting honey September 15th!!

Keep kicking leaves, sipping cider and enjoy Fall!

Can you believe it's August? Sorry I missed the July update—so busy here! Check out The Backyard section— Cliff has taken some grand photos.

I think one of the "good" things about our current fuel situation is that most of us are staying closer to home and enjoying our families and yards. We indulge in simple pleasures—evening chats on the porch, catching fireflies, running under sprinklers.

My girls have been perfecting the art of homemade ice tea! Stop in at the shop for a glass!

Classes will be starting up in September—hope to see you then!

Happy Summer Everyone! Much going on here as we're working hard on our garden space.

We've put up a beautiful arbor (with the help of our good friend Neil!) and have added to the "bones" of the existing garden with lots of annuals!

Check out the website next month for updated photos!

Keep cool!!

P. S. The bees are going gangbusters!

May 1, 2008

I would be remiss if I didn't wax poetic, at least once, about my honeybees! I began my beekeeping "adventure" 3 years ago with the help of my friend, Bill, a seasoned, no-nonsense kind of guy. No "communing with nature" stuff—according to him, bees are simply organized insects.

Maybe so. Or not. What I do know is that when I'm among the hives I find calm and peace—and the critters are just plain PRETTY.

If you've ever been tempted to try beekeeping, we're in the world's best place for it—we have Betterbee, right here in Greenwich, NY! What a kind, knowledgeable, great group of beekeepers! This may be your Spring to go out on a limb and try it—or if not, take time to watch the honeybees—flying jewel!

Welcome friends! I don't know about you, but I'm ready for Spring! Walks around the Village reveal lots of daffodils poking through the ground and the days are getting longer! Seed catalogs are the "read" of choice and I'm once more trying to decide which bunching onions are best.

In a few weeks, the bees will be flying and the Season will officially begin!

Get out and enjoy it all...
